Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh, Division of Pulmonary Medicine is seeking a Laboratory Specialist who will provide technical and scientific support in a translational and molecular research laboratory, design, and perform experiments involving small mammal hemodynamic measurements; small mammal instrumentation; tissue respiration studies; tissue enzyme activity assays; biochemical characterization of proteins including spectrometry, reduction potential, and ligand binding.

The candidate will also assist with routine lab management issues and relevant equipment maintenance, as needed. The candidate will be directed on a daily and weekly basis by the project’s Principal Investigators, but will be expected to independently perform and troubleshoot experiments related to protein characterization and respiration studies. Preference will be given to a candidate who is experienced in small animal experiments or biochemical protein and enzyme characterization.

The members of the team are highly collaborative and interactive, and the candidate must have strong communication skills. The candidate must be able to accurately record and coordinate data collection and analysis and manage interaction with several investigators in a collegial and professional manner.

Baccalaureate; BA/BS (or higher degree) in Biological Science or in related fields is highly recommended. Experience working with small animals in some capacity (not necessarily animal surgery). Preference will be given to a candidate who is experienced in small animal experiments or biochemical protein and enzyme characterization.
