Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Scientist. This position will be responsible for performing:
- Neurocognitive testing of rodents to assess therapeutic efficacy and the effect of the injury.
- Histological Studies: Fixation, processing, and sectioning of animal tissues for routine histology, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. Photomicrographing and analysis including cell counting.
- Molecular and Cell Biology Techniques: Harvesting tissue for molecular and biochemical analysis, PCR genotyping of knockout mouse/rat colonies and agarose gel electrophoresis, western blots, and ELISA. Primary and immortalized cell culture, transfection, cloning, cell death analysis, and live cell imaging.
- Additional responsibilities: some animal husbandry, preparing and maintaining lab inventory, ordering supplies, maintaining lab notebook with careful record keeping, and data analysis. Supervising and teaching undergraduate, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows.

NOTE: The hiring range is for full-time positions and will be prorated based on 70% effort.

Doctoral degree with three years of post-graduate research experience. Three or more years of post-graduate research experience in related fields: molecular and cell biology, lipid-protein interactions, or neuroscience. May participate in the preparation of writing of scientific research papers and manuscripts for publication and lecture.
