Job Summary

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Assistant. This position involves conducting research on the effects of extreme events on critical infrastructure, such as power grids, by modeling and simulating their performance during such events. Additionally, this project involves the study of how such infrastructures depend on each other for their operation. In order to conduct this research, this position involves developing mathematical models of such infrastructures and applying those models into simulations. Students conducting research on this project will be supervised by Prof. Alexis Kwasinski with the assistance of the post-doctoral researcher assigned to this project.

Job Requirements

Knowledge of operation of at least a critical infrastructure, such as power grids or communication networks. Knowledge of modeling and simulation of such infrastructures operation. Basic math knowledge in systems and graph theory. This position also requires assisting the PI (Prof. Alexis Kwasinski) in all project related research tasks, such as writing publications, reporting results and preparing presentations. Close collaboration with the post-doctoral researcher assigned to this project by having regular phone calls or meetings (no less frequent than on weekly basis) is also required as part of this position.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks are required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
