Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator, who will be under the general supervision of the management team. The incumbent will have a position within the Pulmonary Translational Core of the PACCM. The Research Coordinator will work with internationally recognized researchers participating in National Institutes of Health (NIH) trials and industry-sponsored projects. This individual will assist the Principal Investigators (PI’s) with study design, implementation of study protocols, subject recruitment, and subject flow while maintaining research documents/case report forms and source documents. The incumbent may work independently with study sponsors, investigational drug services, and the Internal Review Board (IRB). Some involvement in clinic work will be required, including the performance of phlebotomy with minor laboratory skills, electrocardiograms, pulmonary function testing, and other respiratory testing.

Strong communication skills are essential. A valid license in nursing or respiratory therapy is required. Master’s degree in clinical science, 2 years in a clinical research setting, and experience with pulmonary diseases are strongly preferred. Extensive research experience may be substituted for an advanced degree.

Flexible hours (daylight) may be necessary given the uncertainty of subject flow and grant cycles.

Master’s degree preferred or a Bachelor’s degree in a biological science; prior experience as a Clinical Research Coordinator in a university environment; or at least 3 years’ experience working in a research or clinical environment with a working knowledge of procedures and evaluations relevant to pulmonary medicine or experience in a respiratory care environment with a working knowledge of physiology, clinical procedures and practices.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist or applicable clinical license/certification.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
