Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Vascular Medicine Institute is seeking a Senior Laboratory Specialist with a high degree of understanding of hematopoiesis and specialized skills in highly sophisticated techniques such as the suppression of gene expression using lentiviral transduction of CD34+ human hematopoietic progenitor cells followed by sorting of transduced cells by flow cytometry and culture to determine the effects of gene targeting on differentiation. Protein and mRNA expression in transduced cells will be analyzed using appropriate molecular techniques. Experiments will also include the setting up of conditional gene deletion experiments in mice to model the hematopoietic effects of target genes previously identified in our ex vivo cell culture model of iron deficiency anemia.
