Job Summary

The University of Pittsburgh is currently seeking a student employee to work as a Group Exercise Instructor.
Responsibilities include:

The group exercise instructor will be responsible for instruction of Healthy U Group Fitness Classes as assigned. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

- Providing a safe, comfortable and motivating class for all participants.

- Planning and choreographing individual classes, employing new music and choreography to maintain participant interest.

- Leading the participants through a proper warm-up, fitness class and cool-down.

- Must be well-organized and prepared to teach classes to a diverse age and experience sample of participants.

- Demonstrating proper form/technique and verbally cue members to correct form.

- Providing equal and respectful treatment to all participants.

- Being appropriately dressed and providing quality customer service at all times.

- Willingness to fill in as a substitute instructor that may include early mornings, late evenings and weekends.

- Maintaining the cleanliness of class areas and storing all equipment after each exercise class.

- Reporting any equipment/facility problems, customer concerns or suggestions to supervisors.

- Acting as a first responder in case of emergency.

Job Requirements

Requirements:
- Experience leading group exercise classes, and/or certification from a leading group exercise institution such as 200-hour yoga, ACSM Group Exercise Instructor, Spinning or Zumba certifications.

- Knowledge and understanding of basic fitness principles and their application to the group fitness setting.

- Ability to maintain a routine weekly work schedule for an entire semester.

- Ability to attend required in-services each semester.

- Willingness to work weekends and fill in as a substitute as needed.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

Hourly Pay Rate $15.00

Teach one or two classes per week.
