Job Summary

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Statistics Lab Assistant to assist (as assigned) with the operation of the Statistics Lab. The assistance involves staffing the Statistics Lab during assigned hours and helping students in introductory statistics courses like STAT 0200, 0800, 1000, or 1100. The assigned hours will not conflict with your class schedule. The assistance involves helping students with homework, helping students understand statistical methods, or helping students use MINITAB or Excel. As necessary, the student worker will load paper in the lab printer and report any computer problems to department staff. If a recitation is meeting in the lab and no other students are seeking assistance, then the student worker will help the TA, as requested. The hours required per week are 5, 10, or 15 with corresponding compensation. The compensation is from the department’s ancillary budget.

This is NOT a TA or TF position. There is NO tuition scholarship and NO health benefits provided. Although the department typically needs several positions each term, continued employment is not guaranteed.

Job Requirements

Requirements include being a full-time undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh and the completion of STAT 1221. Preference will be given to junior and senior students in the undergraduate statistics program, although students from related areas may also be qualified. If you have no prior experience, attending the MINITAB overview sessions of STAT 2020 are strongly encouraged. If you are an international student, a minimum score of 3 on the English proficiency exam administered by the Department of Linguistics is required.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
