Job Summary

The Office of Career Development & Placement Assistance (CDPA) is seeking energetic undergraduate students who are passionate about coaching and assisting fellow Pitt students to represent our department as Peer Career Advisors. Peer Career Advisors (PCAs) play a critical role within CDPA. PCAs support the career consulting component of our office by meeting with undergraduate students during drop-in hours and are trained in resume and cover letter review, use of Handshake and other CDPA resources, and interview preparation.

PCA responsibilities include:
• Work 5-8 hours per week between 10 am-4 pm Monday-Friday; some additional evening hours may be required for programs/presentations.
• Advise undergraduate students during drop-in hours on topics including resume & cover letter critique, use of Handshake & CDPA resources, and interview preparation.
• Facilitate basic career education programs and presentations for residence hall students and student organizations on topics including resumes/cover letters, job search strategies, and interview preparation.
• Represent CDPA in an enthusiastic and professional manner at events including campus tabling, marketing opportunities with fellow students, career events, and employer interactions.
• Attend paid bi-weekly meetings to participate in ongoing training and departmental updates

• Willingness to learn and maintain subject matter specialty related to career education

Job Requirements

To be considered for our team, PCAs must meet the following requirements:
• Must be a full-time undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh with at least two (2) semesters completed at the University of Pittsburgh Oakland campus
• Must be a student in good academic standing; preferred cumulative GPA is 3.0
• Students from all majors are encouraged to apply
• Must be available to work fall 2017 and spring 2018 semesters
• Must be available to fulfill work hours between 10:00 am- 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday
• Must possess a desire to serve and coach their fellow Pitt students

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
