Position Description

The mission of the Center for Research Computing is to increase the research productivity of the University of Pittsburgh’s faculty through the use of advanced computing. We fulfill this mission by:

- Providing our community access to cutting-edge computer hardware and software for enabling transformative research,
- Providing our community training workshops to educate users how to utilize the computing resources effectively,
- Providing extended personalized consultation for improving researchers’ computational workflow and code performance through the selection of better algorithms, parallelization techniques, improved use of input-output strategies, etc.

The Center for Research Computing (CRC) Department at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Coordinator for Outreach and Communications.

This position provides outreach to researchers within the University, especially to communities that are not traditional users of advanced cyberinfrastructure. The Coordinator will be responsible for generating the media to promote the Center’s research consultation and education services and compile success stories arising from these services. This position serves within the CRC team, which is comprised of advanced computing experts from various domains; he/she will report to the Director of the Center.

Education Required Baccalaureate
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 5-6 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

• 5 years experience in a professional capacity
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Effective public speaking ability
• Strong interpersonal and networking skills
• Desire to assist researchers from, and to learn about, a diverse set of research areas
• Ability to quickly grasp the meaning of technical topics from diverse research domains, as well as from fast-paced advances in cyberinfrastructure paradigms
• Ability to translate technical achievements into easily understandable descriptions that non-experts can appreciate
• Some familiarity with scientific computing would be a plus

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
