Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Application Developer who will design, develop, and implement educational software for the Laboratory for Educational Technology at the School of Medicine.

Responsibilities of the incumbent will focus on full-cycle design and coding of primarily web-based software using a variety of programming and database development languages. These include (but are not limited to): C#, JavaScript (ES2015+), Backbone.js and React, Microsoft SQL Server, and Apache Solr.

He/she will work closely with a team of at least three other designers, software coders, and developers within the Lab. He/she will have the opportunity to lead new software development for online simulation and learning management systems, electronic learning portfolios, and patient/procedure logging.

The incumbent must be able to understand basic object-oriented and functional programming approaches, design schema for relational databases, overcome object-relational impedance mismatches, perform debugging of complex applications, and be willing to work with both new and legacy applications.

New software development is the primary role for this individual but some responsibilities will include the maintenance of existing the ASP.NET/SQL-based learning systems. He/she will report to the Lab’s Director and project management staff. Work hours are 37.5 per week during normal business hours Monday through Friday.

The incumbent must possess a professional degree related to software design, and programming. He or she must be proficient in one or more of the following technologies: .NET languages (C# or VB.NET), ASP.NET, Microsoft SQL Server, JavaScript, jQuery, backbone.js, or Python. Knowledge of mobile platforms and modern web development (CSS, HTML5) is desirable. Multiple areas of proficiency are highly desirable.
