Job Summary

The University is seeking a graduate student employee for a competitive graduate student internship program titled: Elsie Hillman Civic Forum Ambassadors for Civic Engagement.

The Ambassadors for Civic Engagement Program (Elsie ACEs) will provide an opportunity for students to apply their classroom education in the community through a robust long-term experiential internship that will address a critical community and policy issue with a focus on affecting positive community outcomes. Through the course of this program, students will increase their understanding of social issues, strengthen their social responsibility, heighten their understanding of human diversity and learn from students representing myriad disciplines all while responding to the challenges of our communities.

Duration of the internship is 10 months, July 2017 – April 2018.

Selected candidates will be embedded with Adagio Health, an organization that specializes in women’s healthcare delivery and service.

Students will be devoted to activities that advocate for the rights of patients and promotes long-term systemic change. Additionally, Elsie ACEs will help develop and execute strategies that will strengthen regional partnerships for the development of a robust referral network that will help women and their families in Western Pennsylvania lead healthier lives.

• Establishment of a Western Pennsylvania Women’s Healthcare Consortium

• Targeted advocacy around Title X to work to ensure it remains intact

• Incorporation of Public Health 3.0 into Adagio Health’s agenda

• Strategic partnerships and coordinated advocacy campaigns with national, state and local organizations

• Transforming Women’s Health, Driving Policy Change – Adagio Health’s inaugural women’s health policy symposium and networking event (to be held in March 2018).

Each of these activities will support the other and drive a larger healthcare advocacy and policy agenda to ensure access to affordable healthcare to the citizens of Western Pennsylvania.

Three times a month the Elsie ACEs will attend a cohort development session intended to compliment internship activities. The weekly sessions will focus on leadership development, project management exercises, and guided discussion and special presentations on related topics.
