Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown’s Information Technology (PJIT) unit is seeking a highly motivated Desktop Services Analyst. This is a highly technical position that reports to the Director of User Services within PJIT and requires advanced technical skills, knowledge and experience.

The incumbent serves as the primary position for support and deployment for all faculty, staff, departmental labs and ancillary computers on campus. The position works closely with other members of User Services and the entire PJIT team.

In general, the incumbent provides computing support to all campus faculty and staff enabling state-of-the-art desktop computing environment.

Incumbent is responsible for the following:
- response to Support Desk calls pertaining to faculty, staff and departmental lab computers
- consult with other units in IT for both planning and problem resolution
– manage the yearly installation of new PC’s for faculty and staff
– troubleshoot and replace faulty PC’s
– manage the inventory of all PC’s including those being re-purposed
– deliver and install PC’s and other technology to faculty offices, staff offices and departmental labs
– customize PC’s for individual faculty and staff work-related needs (including specialized software, printers and scanners).

Exemplary personal conduct, a professional bearing, and technical proficiency are required always. The ability to work with people of all levels is essential to success.

The incumbent must also have the ability to understand and communicate University and PJIT initiatives to insure their implementation and success.

Education Required Associate
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 3-5 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Associate with at least 2 years IT experience or Baccalaureate degree.

Degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience) is required to meet the technical demands of this position.

Extensive knowledge of the Windows operating systems and networking technology required. Knowledge of Mac OS helpful.

Demonstrated verbal and written communications skills.

At least 3 years of pertinent working experience in Information Technology beyond education minimum.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
