Position Description

University Dental Health Services, Inc. (UDHS) is a private dental practice staffed by licensed dentists who serve as faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. The UDHS Oral Pathology Biopsy Service is recognized for excellence in diagnostic oral pathology, providing high quality services to patients of dental and medical practices located throughout the region. UDHS is seeking a full-time administrator to provide both front and back office support to the Oral Pathology biopsy center.

Front office duties include accessioning pathology specimens, communicating with clinicians’ offices and laboratory personnel, addressing quality assurance issues, and general laboratory duties such as ordering supplies, dispensing common pathology chemicals, filing slides, and maintenance of records for OSHA and CLIA inspection. Back office responsibilities include registering patients in the practice’s electronic health record system, preparing and submitting insurance claims, posting payments from insurers and patients as well as researching and resolving denials, responding to billing questions, and a variety of other duties related to maintaining practice, provider and patient accounts. With respect to back office duties, the incumbent’s work will be supervised by the UDHS billing manager.

Accuracy, attention to detail and an ability to understand the mechanics of patient, provider and practice account administration are critical to success in this role.

Associate degree and a minimum of two years of experience in medical/dental claims processing. Career training in medical billing and/or substantial experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. Knowledge of medical and/or dental terminology is required.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
