Position Description

The Rossi laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking candidates for a software engineer position (Systems/Programmer IV classification). Our lab develops advanced imaging technologies and applies them to better understand the living and diseased retina.

Specific duties include:
- Write and maintain software for high performance image acquisition and experimental control systems
- Extend existing custom software with new features
- Develop custom software for image processing, including image registration and feature segmentation algorithms
- Assist in experimental design and data acquisition for imaging experiments
- Maintain laboratory computer hardware and software infrastructure
- Write and present research findings for internal and external meetings and contribute to preparation of journal manuscripts and grant applications

Education Required Master's
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 5-6 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

The position requires a M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science or equivalent. Highly motivated, self-driven, and organized, with good interpersonal and time-management skills.

Required Licenses/Certifications

The following (or equivalent) are highly desired:
a. Basic skills of Windows device driver programming
b. Basic skills of FPGA programming with VHDL or Verilog
c. Experience using CUDA for GPU computing and image processing
d. Experience with LabVIEW and Matlab
e. Experience with technical writing

The minimum experience level required. (Again, all qualifications listed must be job related.)
a. Proficiency with Microsoft Visual C++ programming
b. Proficiency with Microsoft MFC for GUI development
c. Experience with Windows multi-thread programming
d. Experience with real-time data acquisition and control systems

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
