Position Description

The candidate is responsible for providing vision and direction enabling the Swanson School of Engineering (hereafter “SSoE”) to achieve strategic technology and business objectives borne out of the direction and goals of the SSoE strategic plan. The candidate will be responsible for making decisions concerning strategic initiatives through a demonstrated ability to use broad-based business information and knowledge. The candidate must support and grow SSoE’s core technological and business strengths that support its academic, research, philanthropic, and business activities. The candidate must ensure that technology is properly aligned with SSoE’s and the University’s overall operations. This position will work closely with leadership, faculty, staff and students, and other stakeholders, to identify and maximize opportunities to use knowledge and technology (e.g., to improve business processes, promote the strategic use of information, and enable the workforce to use information and technology).

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Master’s Degree in relevant field or combination of Baccalaureate and 5+ years professional experience or 7+ years professional experience specific to primary duties of this position.
10+ years of experience in strategic planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of technology serving a large academic institution or center, or in a large corporate setting. At least 7 years of experience in project management of major development projects, particularly as a business lead for systems development. At least 5-8 years of management experience, during which one or more of the following occurred: successfully developed and implemented new technologies and work processes; demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management; gained experience in leading multidiscipline, high-performance work teams/groups; demonstrated competency in developing efficient and effective solutions to diverse; and complex business problems demonstrated high competency in project management and the execution of multiple or large projects. Understanding of the key business issues that exist in public research universities; these include, but are not limited to, personnel administration, federal, state and local laws related to higher education, marketing, financial and cost analysis, and technology trends in higher education.
