Position Description

The Research Manager will provide pre and post-award management for sponsored projects in the School of Social Work.

The manager will provide high quality support to faculty, staff, and graduate students. This includes providing direct support to faculty in preparing budgets and assisting with proposal submission to granting agencies, primarily federal agencies. Responsibilities include: preparing complex budgets, projecting annual research expenses, analyzing funding trends, being knowledgeable about federal grant polices, and keeping up to date with changes in the research environment. The incumbent will interpret and apply University and Federal Agency policies and procedures. The ability to manage several tasks simultaneously and respond quickly to changing priorities is essential to the success of this position. A bachelor’s degree in business or a related field is preferable; must have at least 3-5 year’s experience in research administration.

Additionally the manager will provide professional level management for the post-award process of sponsored project and contract management. This includes duties such as monthly reconciliations of sponsored project accounts, contract service agreements, no cost extensions, material transfer requests, budget modification requests, salary and non- salary expense transfers, completion and processing of noncompeting continuations, meetings with faculty to review their accounts, verification of salary expenditures and effort reporting on sponsored projects, expense projections, and account closings. Successful candidates must have excellent communication skills and a commitment to supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment. Candidates must have strong analytical skills and MUST be demonstrably proficient using Microsoft Office software. Prior sponsored project experience and proficiency in the following programs is desirable: Oracle (PRISM), PantherExpress, and ITWorks, WePay, etc.

Bachelor’s degree required. Experience in fiscal management, grant management, federal regulations, compliance, and budgetary/accounting practices required. MUST demonstrate strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrable practical knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. Experience with University policies and procedures strongly preferred.
