Position Details

The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time, 12-month non-tenure stream faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or above with the associated title of Vice Chair and Director of Post-Professional Education. The Department of Physical Therapy, housed in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is ranked number 1 in the US News and World Reports. An earned Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and prior experience with administration and leadership of post-professional education for physical therapists is preferred.

For this position, we are seeking individuals with strong administrative and leadership experience and a commitment to excellence in post-professional education within the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. The individual must be highly organized and motivated and aware of educational trends and issues in post-professional education for physical therapists. The ideal candidate will have experience with residency and fellowship training fo_r physical therapists as well as an understanding of the specialization process for physical therapists. The individual must also be willing and able to represent the Department of Physical Therapy within the University community and externally to local and national audiences.

As the Vice Chair and Director of Post-Professional Education, the incumbent will:

• Serve as a member of the senior leadership team within the Department of Physical Therapy;
• Provide administrative oversight for the Masters of Science in Physical Therapy degree program and other post-professional degree programs that may be developed and offered within the Department of Physical Therapy;
• Evaluate the post-professional education landscape and develop a plan to expand post-professional educational offerings to meet the needs of local, regional, national and international physical therapist audiences;
• Develop and provide administrative oversight for post-graduate certificate programs, such as the Primary Spine Provider Certificate Program;
• Develop educational offerings that would support preparation of physical therapists for specialty certification in areas including but not limited to orthopaedics, sports, neurological, geriatrics, and women’s health;
• Develop educational offerings that could provide the didactic component for residencies and fellowships in orthopaedics, orthopaedic manual therapy, sports, neurological, geriatrics and women’s health physical therapy as well as for other residencies and fellowships that may be developed;
• Develop and implement a plan to market and promote post-professional educational offerings to local, regional, national and international audiences;
• Work collaboratively with individuals from Rehabilitation Sciences and Technology to create and distribute on-line learning programs and modules;
• Provide administrative direction and support for students planning continuing education offerings for fund raising efforts for the Marquette Challenge for the Foundation for Physical Therapy;
• Regularly review and evaluate post-professional educational offerings and recommend and implement changes as needed;
• Evaluate, mentor and develop faculty that are involved in providing post-professional education;
• Seek appropriate approvals of educational offerings to ensure that the offerings are accepted for maintenance of certification by regulatory bodies;
• Teach in the Doctor of Physical Therapy and/or post-professional programs in area of expertise;
• Provide direct supervision for the Administrator of Professional Development;

• Represent the Department on School and University committees;
• Serve as a liaison to the UPMC Centers for Rehab Services Residency Programs.
