Position Details

We are seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. researcher to support and contribute to research as a Re search Associate in the areas of functional neuroimaging and developmental psychopathology. The applicant will work primarily on an NIMH funded research project (Girls Brain Study; R01 MH103241;Silk/Ladouceur) being conducted at the University of Pittsburgh. The Girls Brain Study is a prospective high-risk longitudinal neuroimaging study that examines how neural processing of social threats and rewards contributes to risk for social anxiety and depression in adolescent girls. The study is based in the Families, Emotions, Neuroscience and Development Lab (http://www.fendlab.pitt.edu/) in the Department of Psychology (http://www.psychology.pit t.edu/) , under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Silk, and the Cognitive¬≠ Affective Neuroscience & Development (CAN-D) laboratory (http://www.candlab.pitt.edu) in the Department…of Psychiatry/Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic
(http://www .psychiatry.pltt.edu/) under the direction of Dr. Cecile Ladouceur. This position offers the opportunity to work in a high quality research environment with strong clinical and scientific collaborations with local and national world-renowned researchers.
We seek an exceptional Ph.D. researcher with a degree in psychology, neuroscience or related fields and with prior experience in functional neuroimaging methodology, data management, and advanced statistical analysis. Advanced skills in neuroimaging data analysis and familiarity with cutting edge techniques are a priority. Experience with Matlab programming , neuroimaging software (e.g., SPM, AFNI, FSL, etc), and data management is preferred. Additional knowledge in developmental or clinical psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or functional neuroanatomy would be an asset, as are the following characteristics: strength in research methods; excellent organizational and writing skills; demonstrated ability to take initiative and follow through; ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and students; and an interest in developmental, cognitive or affective neuroscience.
The Research Associate position is a senior staff-level full-time appointment in support of research and scholarship. The appointment is renewable and is not viewed as preparation for another position. Specific duties for this position will be to provide neuroimaging data processing and analysis, to assist in experimental tasks design, and to provide consultation on functional neuroimaging data analytic techniques to post-docs and students in the lab. There will be opportunities to remain active in publishing and co-authoring manuscripts and to present research at national and international meetings.
