This senior level position is responsible for developing and implementing best practices in fostering the development and launch of companies based on innovations generated from University faculty. The incumbent will work with faculty, staff and students to assess business potential of University innovations and advance these opportunities down the path for commercial development if warranted. The Entrepreneur-in-Residence will be responsible for working with entrepreneurs, regional economic development organizations, early stage venture capitalists, companies and others to advance these innovations toward eventually being spun-out of the University. Duties include evaluating inventions for marketability, developing and executing commercialization strategies for inventions, identifying management teams, seeking early-stage investors, participating in company formation decisions, implementing spin-off strategies, and following up and monitoring of licensee performance. This individual will also help the enterprise development function in enhancing its programs and processes in advancing Pitt innovations to the marketplace.
|Minimum Related Experience Level Required||5-6 years experience|
|Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position||
BS, advanced degree preferred, in a scientific or engineering field; MBA preferred. Supervisory experience is desired. Over 5 years business, economic development and fund-raising experience in the early-stage setting. Must have ability to formulate company formation strategies and exhibit entrepreneurial and exceptional interpersonal skills. General knowledge about patent and copyright process as it relates to early-stage technical inventions is required. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work on multiple, complex transactions are essential.
