Position Description

A Research Technician position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Erik Wright in the Department of Biomedical Informatics. The Wright lab (http://wrightlabscience.com) studies the evolution of microorganisms that can naturally produce antibiotics, as well as the evolution of clinically-relevant bacteria that have acquired antibiotic resistance. The position will primarily be located at Bridgeside Point II (450 Technology Dr).
The successful candidate is expected to have prior wet lab experience in standard microbiological and molecular techniques (e.g., microscopy, cloning, qPCR) and be a quick learner. Careful attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are required. The incumbent must be a team player and enthusiastic about assisting senior researchers in the development of research proposals and papers.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Independently collecting and analyzing data
- Developing and troubleshooting new procedures and protocols
- Coordinating research activity, including data generation and quality control
- Maintenance of existing strain stocks, and creation of new stocks
- Assisting the administrator with lab management duties such as ordering supplies and laboratory equipment, organization of freezer and lab spaces, care and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and monitoring laboratory safety and developing safety plans.
