The Research Technician sought for this position will support research projects conducted at the Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (PIND). Work will be conducted in the lab of Dr. J. Timothy Greenamyre in the Department of Neurology. The projects within this laboratory focus on investigating mechanisms of neuron loss in Parkinson’s Disease and related neurodegenerative diseases. We also investigate potential therapies to alter disease progression using a variety of pharmacologic and gene therapy interventions.
The duties of this full-time position will include work with laboratory animals, involving the following: management of rats during long term studies, intraperitoneal injections, intracardiac perfusions with fixative, and dissection of brains. Duties will also include: preparation of tissues for HPLC and biochemical analyses, processing of fixed tissues for cryopreservation, fluorescent immunohistochemical staining of tissue, basic cell culture techniques, confocal microscopy, and performing general laboratory duties, such as making solutions and buffers. The technician will also be responsible for data collection and analysis and will report to the principle investigator or postdoctoral scientists.

|Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position||
A qualified applicant should have a background in biological sciences. A bachelor’s degree is required. Laboratory experience including experience with animals, behavioral studies, and biochemistry is preferred. Knowledge of computer-based entry using Word and Excel is required. Strong interpersonal skills, communication and the ability to work within a research team are required.
