Serving as the primary point of contact and administrator for the Director of a highly influential unit, the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the incumbent needs to apply his/her judgement, knowledge and administrative skills to manage and direct the increasingly complex, varying, high paced, day-to-day business activities of the Director’s office research laboratory in order to ensure that the operational and time-driven requirements are met.
The Project Administrator/Assistant to Director serves as strategic liaison to the Director as it pertains to the development, integration and implementation of new operational procedures for administrative and research activities of the office and laboratory, ensuring continuous compliance with University policies and procedures. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for providing guidance and consultation to Principal Investigators as it pertains to administrative aspects of multiple research projects from conception to completion. Responsibilities include: ensuring conformance to schedules, grant management, budget preparation, contract management, compliance, securing all necessary resources (supplies and capital equipment) for research projects, staff management, and acting as liaison with necessary internal and external contacts for research administration. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Director. Responsibilities include meeting and event coordination and management; travel arrangements; relationship management and acting as the primary point of contact for the Director; scheduling; and, daily office management responsibilities.
|Minimum Related Experience Level Required||5-6 years experience|
|Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position||
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s preferred. Degree in science, engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred. Five to six years of experience with research administration and research methodology. Strong knowledge of research regulatory and compliance policies, practices, and procedures, specifically associated with sponsored research is required. Experience in grant preparation and submission, including budget development and preparation, as well as with purchasing procedures and contract administration is required. Experience with research office administration and personnel management is required. Must be able to use judgment to make decisions and solve problems as they arise without consulting the Director, unless necessary. Strong knowledge of and significant experience with University policies, purchasing procedures, grant submission process, contract policies, hiring, preparation of update and regulatory reports, and regulations applicable to animal and human research is necessary for successful performance.
