Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Strategic Sourcing and Panther-Buy Solutions is seeking a qualified Procurement Specialist to manage suppliers in the scientific category. This position will establish, maintain and develop long-term strategic relationships with critical suppliers and conduct formal business reviews with these suppliers therefore demonstrated supplier management experience is required. Working with Strategic Sourcing and in accordance with the scientific supplies, equipment and instrumentation category strategy, drive supplier selection and overall supplier management for the category. Drive all supplier activity within the scientific supplies, equipment and instrumentation category to deliver best cost, quality and supply chain performance for our products. It will require a deep understanding of the scientific supply chain and the marketing practices of the industry manufacturers and distributors. To achieve this expertise an understanding and experience with all forms of procurement are required including but not limited to Request for Information (RFI), Request for Quote (RFQ), Invitation to Bid (IFB) and Request for Proposal (RFP). The position will require advanced analytical skills with capabilities of analyzing large sets of spend data and demonstrated experience in project management. It will involve analyzing data and publishing reports for performance updates, issues and metrics therefore attention to detail and the ability to present and communicate information using programs like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, are essential.

Previous experience in Scientific industry helpful.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Professional certifications in procurement.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
