Position Description

This laboratory manager will manage day-to-day operations of the Shiva lab in the Vascular Medicine Institute. He/She will assist senior lab members with the design and planning of protocols and experiments, and perform tissue culture and complex biochemical experiments. The incumbent’s duties will include making and keeping track of lab purchases, monitoring grant budgets, receiving and organizing orders and biological samples from outside the lab, maintaining stock solutions and cell cultures, and running and teaching spectrophotometric assays used in the lab.

In addition, the incumbent will coordinate the day to day activities of the Mitochondrial Core (as part of the Center for Metabolism and Mitochondrial Medicine). He/She will interact with collaborators/users of the facility to coordinate experimental time as well as ensure experimental design. This includes coordination of the receipt of samples from clinical studies. The incumbent will execute the intricate and highly developed experiments utilizing Seahorse analysis and will perform analysis of the data. He/she will be responsible for working independently to trouble shoot experiments and explain experimental design to users of the facility. He/she will keep abreast of recent literature in order to further develop/improve technical ability within the Shiva lab and Mitochondrial Core.

The incumbent will also contribute to the writing of scientific manuscripts, review articles, abstracts and grant proposals.

The incumbent must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, be an excellent communicator in English, and have an understanding of advanced scientific principles. He/She will be expected to work both independently as well as part of a team.

Master’s Degree required; Master’s with additional experience may be substituted for Doctorate Degree.
