The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Laboratory Technician to support the research group in the Department of Immunology.
The research group of Dr. M. Shlomchik, Department of Immunology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is mainly focused on autoimmunity and memory B lymphocyte biology in various murine systems. The main task will be to assist scientists conducting their experiments in cellular and molecular immunology. These include maintaining cells and cell lines in tissue culture, performing fluorescence activated cell sorter analysis, performing ELISA and ELISpot assays as well as immuno-histology. Procedures also include handling of nucleic acids and proteins, maintain computer files and manage data. Another significant part will be the maintenance of the mouse colony, which includes breeding, weaning and PCR screening of genetically altered mouse lines; clone DNA vectors for targeted manipulation of murine fertilized eggs; perform analysis of sequencing data using highly sophisticated molecular biology software and interpret these data at a higher level; provide internal training of employees on CAMS (animal ordering) system and monitor compliance; conduct immuno-biological experiments independently with tissues from self-bred genetically modified mice and graph and analyze these data at a higher level of interpretation.
