Position Description

A behavioral neurophysiology laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking to hire a Research Technician. The lab focuses its research efforts on understanding neural processing of rewards and reward related behavior, including learning and decision making. The successful candidate will possess a broad range of abilities and be trained to handle more complex responsibilities. Daily responsibilities will include training and conducting experiments in awake monkeys, maintaining and checking the health and well-being of a monkey colony; keeping accurate animal records in accordance with institutional policies; preparing for, assisting with, and cleaning up after sterile surgery, maintaining lab cleanliness, keeping laboratory inventory, ordering supplies, and training students and other lab members.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 3-5 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor’s degree is preferred; however, equivalent experience will be accepted. Experience with handling non-human primates is preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Successful candidate must complete a number of online modules pertaining to laboratory safety, ethical treatment of animals, and proper research conduct.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
