The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Laboratory Specialist in the Department of Cardiovascular Institute.
The incumbent will join a basic and translational science laboratory focused on cardiovascular disease research with strong emphasis on cell and molecular biology as well as animal models of disease. Activities include, but are not limited to, maintaining a mouse breeding colony including weaning, genotyping and carefully recording results and organizing with meticulous attention the all information about the colony. The incumbent will also assist in preparation of animals for surgery and careful tissue collection after terminal procedures, assist lab members in the design and planning of protocols and experiments related to research projects, and assist in ordering supplies and maintaining inventories and records of reagent, supplies, equipment and animals. In addition, the incumbent will assist in maintenance of lab facilities and equipment up to the institutional regulatory requirements and suitable for performing experiments. The incumbent will conduct biochemical, genetic, cell and molecular experiments and will be involved in the culture of primary cells and cell lines. Must be able to work in a team and independently and should have good strong troubleshooting skills. Must be flexible and very well-organized and able to clearly document data and activities in a lab notebook. Must effectively communicate with PI and other lab members and contribute to lab management (expenditures, supplies, regulatory and training).
|Minimum Related Experience Level Required||1-2 years experience|
|Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position||
Minimum of Bachelors degree in biology, chemistry, physiology or microbiology. Master’s degree preferred. 2 years experience in laboratory setting. Must have experience in animal research. Must have experience with basic lab equipment and biologic/health science lab environment and basic techniques.
A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related field and 2 years of related laboratory research experience are necessary. The ideal candidate is expected to also have superior organizational, time management, troubleshooting and multi-tasking skills
