Position Details

POSITION: Sculpture and Digital Fabrication Studio Clinical Instructor. The position supports the management, operations, safety, and oversight of these two facilities – one existing and one under development – along with visual arts research involving department students and faculty. The position is full-time, non-tenure stream, one-year renewable (an eight-month, two-term contract with some negotiable summer responsibility).

SALARY: To be determined, commensurate with qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate degree required; teaching experience preferred. Working knowledge and experience with wood, metal, and digital fabrication tools, processes, and software.

EXPECTATIONS INCLUDE: Excellent communication, collaborative and organizational skills, and participation within the community of the department (faculty and students). Shop oversight responsibilities include: tool and equipment maintenance and operation (existing and start-up); network and facilities trouble-shooting and coordination; consumable material planning and inventory; developing and administering digital fabrication lab policies and procedures; supervising student workers; and offering periodic workshops within the department. The position will entail late afternoon, evening, and weekend hours, that are minimized in the summer months. Candidates should be able to accommodate changing demands in a busy shop environment.

EQUIPMENT LIST: Wood construction tools include: table saw, panel saw, vertical band saw, miter saw, free-standing drill press, and belt/disc sander. Metal construction tools include: MIG welder, oxy-acetylene welding, and metal foot shear. Planned digital fabrication tools include: 3D Printers, laser engraver, vinyl cutter/plotter, CNC routers, and electronics kits.

DESCRIPTION: The Department of Studio Arts places a strong emphasis on integrative art making that relates to all realms of our complex contemporary world. We are committed to providing our students with a variety of perspectives, mentors, and role models. The department currently offers hands-on courses in: Visual Thinking, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Installation, Printmaking, Digital Photography, Imaging, and Video.
