Position Details

POSITION: Lecturer with primary specialization in Painting, secondary specialization in Arts Writing, and the ability to teach Drawing, Visual Thinking, or Printmaking. The position is fullĀ­ time, non-tenure stream, three-year renewable ( eight month contract over two semesters, teaching three courses per semester plus working with Directed Study students each term).

SALARY: To be determined, commensurate with qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MFA in Studio Arts with emphasis in Painting. The position requires broad knowledge and experience with acrylic and oil paints as well as a variety of painting media including glaze, impasto, and mixed media techniques. Candidates should have expansive knowledge of art history, color theory, contemporary issues in painting, and critical dialogue in the visual arts. Three years of university-level teaching experience in painting and arts writing is preferred along with an active exhibition and professional record.

EXPECTATIONS INCLUDE: Excellent communication, collaborative and organizational skills, and participation within the community of the department with faculty and students. Share responsibilities managing the painting studio and in activities surrounding the annual student exhibition; participation in department and university service as necessary.

DESCRIPTION: The Department of Studio Arts places a strong emphasis on integrative art making that relates to all realms of our complex contemporary world. We are committed to providing our students with a variety of perspectives, mentors, and role models. The department currently offers hands-on undergraduate courses in: Visual Thinking, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Installation, Printmaking, and Digital Photography, Imaging, and Video.
