Job Summary

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Peer Tutor/UTA. CS Peer Tutors and UTAs support the Computer Science Department by assisting undergraduate students in various CS courses. Students qualified to work as Peer Tutors will staff the Computer Science Resource Center (CRC) and will primarily assist students enrolled in CS core (400 level) and service courses. When qualified to do so, peer tutors will also provide assistance to students enrolled in upper level CS core and/or elective courses.

Students who have not completed the CS core are eligible to serve as UTAs in CS introductory and intermediate programming courses (CS 0004, 0007, 0008, 0401). Students will hold office hours and will lead recitation or lab sections of their assigned class.

Positions are hired for the term they are posted with the option of continuing for future terms based on satisfactory job and academic performance.

Job Requirements

Candidates who have completed all CS 0400 level courses with a 3.25 QPA, a B+ or better (A- preferred) in each course, and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher are eligible for UTA or Peer Tutor positions.

Candidates who have completed CS 0445 are eligible for all UTA positions.

Candidates who have completed CS 0401 are eligible for the remaining UTA positions.

*Up to two letters of recommendation are required. At least one should be from a CS faculty member. Letters can be emailed directly to from the person providing the reference.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
